Having not read, looked at, or thought about Sports Illustrated for at least a decade and a half, I assumed it was failing because it was just another dying institution in the dying industry of printed media. Another story of a once treasured brand fallen on hard times "saved" by private equity and slowly ran into the ground in cost-cutting measure after cost-cutting measure before finally being dismantled to maximize shareholder profit.

I had to do a little looking into the latest conservosphere outrage machine to figure out what woke hijinx Sports Illustrated got into that directly lead to its demise, and it sounds like I'm wrong. It went belly up because DocBrown felt uncomfortable jacking off to the recent swimsuit edition that featured a trans woman on the cover.
