I'm picking up a theme here. To that end, I think that if we're going to focus hard on grabbing centers, we should look at adding Zhilkin with our second pick if he's available. He's a skilled, dangly kind of guy, but he's also pretty sound defensively, and his team has leaned on him to play defense in a few games this year as well. Not sure if he'll be available in the second round, but he's on my short list.
Here's my take on the theme:
010: RC Brad Lambert - with Wright, Cooley, and Nazar off the board, I drafted the speedy wild card with the highest potential of all forwards.
041: LD Lian Bichsel - I couldn't pass on Bichsel when he was sitting right there... great shutdown defenseman.
042: LC Danny Zhilkin - I traded two picks to grab this skilled center who can play defense. Consistency has been an issue, but he's improved a lot.
105: LC Jake Karabela - a playmaking center whose hallmarks are his vision and hockey sense.
111: RC Liam Arnsby - aggressive, two-way, swiss army knife sort of high energy grinder.
128: RD Michael Fisher - intriguing offensive defenseman with a lot of runway.
137: RC Tim Almgren - a small center who put up decent numbers in Sweden's U20 league.
190: LC Cedrick Guindon - I traded up my last two picks to grab this small center with a high-end shot. Shane Wright lite.
