He finally had a breakout season last year under Gallant, but his minutes and production are down under Laviolette.

Is that an aberration or simply a high draft pick who isn't living up to the hype?
Lafreniere was in the same boat.
This year he gets minutes and linemates and boom - production.

Top defense prospect Axel Sandin-Pellikka has returned to the Skelleftea organization after sitting out with an undisclosed injury suffered during the 2024 World Junior Championships. Sandin-Pellikka has been a standout name for Skelleftea, ranking third among the team’s defenders in scoring despite missing 13 games this season. He’s boasting 13 points through 26 games, the most among any U20 defensemen in the SHL. The Red Wings selected Sandin-Pellikka with the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Dmitry Buchelnikov was the rookie of the week for the 5th time this season in the KHL with 5 pts in 4 games.

In terms of production, he has 29 pts in 52 games in his 20 year old KHL season. In their 20 year old seasons, Artemi Panarin had 32 points in 50 games and Pavel Buchnevich had 37 points in 58 games.

Highly unlikely he's anywhere near as good as those guys...
But trying to think of solid offensive talent who's short but not that fast.
Poor man's Jiri Hudler?

So, I thought getting players out of Russia was impossible now. Russia is banned from international competition and the NHL suspended its "business partner" agreement with the KHL.

But, Washington's Miroshnichenko, who did play in Russia last season, is now playing in the AHL as a 20-year old.

Does it mean we have a chance to see Buchelnikov in training camp next season?

There are several Russians who've come over since the war began.
Feels like the propaganda war is heating up though. Apparently Russia arrested some Russian-American ballerina who donated to a Ukraine charity.
There are lots of ways Amerca could retaliate in ways that would impact the NHL.

Miroshnichenko stayed in Germany while recovering from his malady, I believe......maybe that helped him to come to NA.

Two Sabres prospects came over and are in Rochester - both came over after the war started.
But the war rhetoric is picking up. Gotta get that grift going to Ukraine
