I think one of the things I liked most about Veleno's shift was... him taking the stick in the face and not stopping.. not diving... checked his face and kept skating to keep the play going.

Where’d he get a stick in the face?

I watched about a dozen Griffs' games last year (can't get enough Mo) and Veleno usually looked good but at the end of the day the numbers weren't there.
Even early in the season when his +/- was horrendous and he wasn't producing, he looked pretty good to me. He was making rookie mistakes and needed to adjust to lack of passing lanes and that they would disappear so quickly but he looked good. His skating, puck possession, grit and effort were all there though and he improved on the other things as the season progressed. I still think his numbers were a fluke and this year Malmo isn't a very good team. I wish they would have tried to get him together with other Wings prospects.

I know Zadina was younger in his rookie pro season but Veleno looked noticeably better to me in his rookie season but the numbers definitely didn't indicate that.
