One of the more peculiar prospect moves of the offseason was Kirill Tyutyayev's move to the Belarus league.
The 20-year old Russian winger, listed at 5'9, 175, was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 draft. Tyutyaev hails from Yekaterinberg - home of Pavel Datsyuk. It was my hope Tyutyayev might play alongside Datsyuk and learn some things from the legendary Red Wing.
Unfortunately, he went to Belarus.

Context
Tyutyayev was actually an overager in 2019 - barely. He would have been a late birthday if drafted in 2018.

He was drafted out of the MHL - the Russian junior league after putting up 19-41-60 in 60 games. That was third among D+1 players in points.
Last year, after scoring 8 points in 8 games in junior, he was called up to the VHL - which is somewhat like the AHL for the KHL. He scored 20 points in 27 games. That led all D+2 skaters in the league. Only Kirill Marchenko had a better points/game average. (Marchenko, a Columbus prospect who's starting to look like a steal in round 2, has 15 points in the KHL this year).

This Year

That brings us to this year.
Among D+3 players, Tyutyayev is second in points to Alexander Skorenov (22 points in 22 games). Tyutyayev leads 2018 draft years in points/game.
In general, he's 7th in points/game in the league.

Looking around the league, Tyutyayev is one of a handful of players to have been drafted by an NHL team. Alexei Mikhnov, former Oilers first rounder who played 2 NHL games.

On the positive side, he's doing much better than Yevgeni Oksentyuk, a 19-year-old Stars pick who has 2 points in 14 games after scoring 78 points in 58 games for the Flint Firebirds in 19-20. Tyutyayev is six months older.

It's very hard to put Tyutyayev's Belarus performance in any kind of context.

One Russia Hockey watched at HFboards said the Belarus league is about on par with the VHL. Another noted that 3 Yekaterinburg players have been assigned to Minsk in the Belarus league, so it's like a farm club in some respect.

The NHLe (NHL Equivalency rating) isn't kind to Belarus.
