I'm not going to bother to watch if this is another year of an AHL team playing in the NHL like it was before this year. Playoffs is a must.

What we proved this year is that even if we add a PPG HOFer to our lineup we still don’t have the horses to contend. Even if Larkin doesn’t get hurt and we make the playoffs, the team we saw in the stretch run doesn’t get out of the first round. We’re a middle of the pack team and bringing back or adding new 35 year olds doesn’t get this team over the hump to win a cup and sets back the effort to built a sustainable contender. We still need elite talent. The last 2 years have taken us out of the running for that and set the rebuild back further.

If we’re done rebuilding via the draft we have to add to the core via trade. That means moving picks and prospects. Given Larkin’s age and the contracts Seider and Raymond are going to get, that’s a viable option as well, but adding enough difference makers via that route is a tall task.

AHL teams only have a handful of vets. We have not iced anything close to an AHL team during Yzerman’s tenure.

From a talent standpoint Fischer, Sprong, Veleno & Petry are not far off from AHL caliber. We are far better off playing more youth over those guys.

Play the kids. Time to see what we have as far as the NHL goes.

The only kid held down this season was Berggren. IDK if he stays or is traded....hopefully for a RD or Goalie, or a C.....in a package, of course.
