And they’re stuck in a minor league market working with currency worth 70 cents on the dollar compared to 26 other teams in the league.

Whoever buys Arizona will either take them to a market that’s eager for a team or get a sweetheart deal to stay.

Ottawa a minor league market? They are the 4th most populated city in Canada behind Toronto, Montreal and Calgary. When you account for fans that come from just outside Ottawa like Gatineau which right across the bridge from Ottawa and all other towns close enough to it, there is more than enough people around. The main problem for Ottawa was they built the fucking arena in Kanata which makes going to games a pain in the ass for anyone that doesn't live on the West side of Ottawa. The new arena they want to build would be downtown which would be better for the majority of fans.

The population of the Metro area is < 1.5 million. Not a top 40 market in the US & Canada. In a league with only 32 teams, that makes them minor league sized.

You have to figure in the fact that hockey is a religion in Canada and that there are at least twice the # of fans (at least) per metro area in Canada then the US.

Sure. Whoever buys the ‘yotes may try to move them to Canada too. However, the Jets are in financial trouble again for the same reason the original franchise was - not enough corporate revenue. I’d suspect that’s a problem for Ottawa as well.

Houston, Atlanta, San Diego, San Francisco, Baltimore, Orlando & San Antonio are all metro areas in the US with other major league sports and without an NHL team. All of those markets are 2-4 times bigger than Ottawa.

Honestly, I don’t give a fuck about Ottawa and between the differences in the market and the financial issues of the previous ownership, I don’t think it means much as a comparable.

"Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega has publicly stated that the Coyotes new proposed arena would not be feasible on the land that the team is looking at and he went on to issue a warning of sorts to the franchise saying that the team should stay away from that area because he would not support the endeavor. The Coyotes have been looking at a 95-acre parcel of land that would fall within Phoenix city limits, but Ortega believes that the lack of infrastructure would be a problem and also says that Scottsdale has no available water assets to spare."

Looks like it would be more work than it is worth meaning more time and more money spent. I have been on a few of these projects, usually funded by government.......er taxpayer funds.

Arizona has a pretty big metro area (same as the places you mentioned) but it doesn't really matter if over 90% of people there don't give a fuck about hockey and will only go to games if the team is good.

They should of hung onto Teemu Selänne and stayed in the Peg!

The NHL needs revenue sharing.

For sure. That’s a huge risk in any southern hockey market in general. The best place for the NHL to relocate the Sens from an economic standpoint would be the metro Toronto area but the Leafs aren’t having that.
