He's never been a big point producer like Karlsson but his overall game is what sets him apart.
Seider has a lot of intangibles that a Hedman has and the offense is somewhat there since he's been a 40-50 point guys early in his career; there's definitely room to grow and refine his game.
Seider has looked comfortable in his body since day 1.
Compared to Edvinsson? He had to grow into his body. And Hedman was similar.
Here are the 5 on 5, straight numbers
Gost 7-11-18
Petry 2-16-18
Seider 4-13-17
Maatta 4-12-16
Chiarot 4-11-15
Walman 9-3-12.
He's OK on the PP. He some points on an improved PP.
But he's not a dynamic offensive guy.
He's tied for 58th in 5 on 5 raw production - a number that would fall considerably on a per-minute basis.
There are eight defense with 30 5 on 5 points - Hughes, Hedman, Morrisey, Josi, Makar, Dobson, Werenski and Hronek. Toews and Bouchard have 29.
Seider's strength isn't that he's some offensive whiz kid. He's 1) a physical, capable defense guy and 2) he's a good transition guy to turns a defensive situation into an offensive situation.
Players like Seider tilt the ice
It's not important to me to force him to be the PP QB.
Gost has been just as good or better than him. Last year, Hronek was significantly better than him on the PP.
Some of the other guys are better zipping around the Ozone or taking bombs from the point. Doesn't mean they're better or worse.
Probably means they'll be more expensive relative to actual value.
