He's never been a big point producer like Karlsson but his overall game is what sets him apart.
Seider has a lot of intangibles that a Hedman has and the offense is somewhat there since he's been a 40-50 point guys early in his career; there's definitely room to grow and refine his game.

Seider has looked comfortable in his body since day 1.
Compared to Edvinsson? He had to grow into his body. And Hedman was similar.

Here are the 5 on 5, straight numbers
Gost 7-11-18
Petry 2-16-18
Seider 4-13-17
Maatta 4-12-16
Chiarot 4-11-15
Walman 9-3-12.

He's OK on the PP. He some points on an improved PP.
But he's not a dynamic offensive guy.

He's tied for 58th in 5 on 5 raw production - a number that would fall considerably on a per-minute basis.
There are eight defense with 30 5 on 5 points - Hughes, Hedman, Morrisey, Josi, Makar, Dobson, Werenski and Hronek. Toews and Bouchard have 29.

Seider's strength isn't that he's some offensive whiz kid. He's 1) a physical, capable defense guy and 2) he's a good transition guy to turns a defensive situation into an offensive situation.
Players like Seider tilt the ice
It's not important to me to force him to be the PP QB.
Gost has been just as good or better than him. Last year, Hronek was significantly better than him on the PP.

Some of the other guys are better zipping around the Ozone or taking bombs from the point. Doesn't mean they're better or worse.
Probably means they'll be more expensive relative to actual value.

Even if he looks comfortable in his body, he's still establishing the offensive side of his game. You're right that he doesn't need to be some offensive whiz kid but neither is Hedman. If Seider can improve a little offensively and be a 50-60 pt Dman while playing the physical, defensive brand of hockey that he's good at, then he'll be one of the better 2-way dmen in the league; he's never gonna be at a Makar/Huges level in points. Hopefully with ASP, Edvinsson and Seider, the Wings can have 3 top dmen who bring something different to the table.

The 5 on 5 numbers will take a hit when he leads the league in ice time vs elite players and the least amount of ice time vs bottom 6 players. He's shouldered with too much defensive responsibility. Those numbers can also change year to year; you mentioned Raymonds 5 on 5 numbers so much last year and look where he's at now. These guys are still too young to be finished products.

Seider and Edvinsson will be patrolling our blue line for a long time.

Hedman was brought along slowly.
He played behind Foster, Brewer, Carle and a bunch of other guys.
Seider has been getting first unit PP minutes since almost day 1.

Dobson's 5 on 5 numbers have similar "elite vs elite" and he's got 40 even strength points on 150 ES goals by the islanders.
Seider has 17 ES points on 169 goals.
So let's be real.
Dobson isn't exactly a whiz kid either.
He's just got a different skill set.

It's gonna be interesting to see how Edvinsson improves.

Undoubtedly, Seider has some of the toughest minutes in the league. Reinforcements are on the way!!!!!

For all the shade thrown at Wallman here - much of it deserved over the last couple of months - it’s worth noting that he has the 2nd toughest deployment in the league and an even +/-

Walman is gonna be hurt a lot if continued to be deployed against the league's best. His slight build is not meant for a lot of punishment. The opposition knows this and in a play-off scenario he will be heavily targeted.

Walman can skate and shoot.
His defensive play is below average and his passing his below average.
It's like a slower Dandenault with a good shot.
