Cuz he has so much owed to him. I didn’t like him being sent down but claiming he’s mailing it in because he was owed a roster spot is silly. He ain’t tanking his career out of spite. If he is, he’s just fucked himself over.
He was offered a contract and turned it down.
What does that tell you?
He does want to be here.
If you don't think that impacts his play, I don't know what to tell you.

You’re right, no player has ever turned down a contract before and then negotiated a different deal with their team. And it’s a smart play on his part to play like shit so other teams will be interested once the Wings give up on him. That’s brilliant.

Young players with limited options don't often turn down deals and ask for trades.
