But really Danielson is about the only healthy forward that’s even worth a thought for a call up - and that’s probably not a good thought at this stage. Cossa could come up, but to play behind this team?
For al the hype about our prospect pool the cupboard is pretty bare in GR.

keep in mind that at this time last year, the griffins had edvinsson, johansson, kasper, and soderblom. right now, i'm happy with four graduates if soderblom can stick. if he gets sent back down, i'd wager mazur gets a call-up before danielson. once he's all up to speed, that is.holytoledo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:08 amIf we’re calling up kids we can waive whoever we like. Great points here. Couldn't agree more. The hype of the prospect pool is not justified and I have embraced this reality. Danielson is the only truly intriguing prospect that I could see being called up. But, as others mentioned, he hasn't exactly blown any doors off the AHL this season. I really thought the kid had a good chance to make the club out of camp his rookie year. Now he seems to have regressed. Are we holding these kids back too long? Is the AHL good or bad for player development? Does our organization player development program suck? Or, are these still just kids developing at different paces and stages? There are plenty of examples of hyped players being thrown straight into the fire of the NHL and underperforming also. Not sure what the answers truly are. However, we need to look at some organizations like Washington and Carolina that are drafting and developing young players consistently and try and emulate.

Before saying Danielson has regressed, he is the #1 C for GR. Danielson’s big adjustment is going from playing against Jr age to playing against grown men, and he’s made himself the #1 c. That’s not bad. Where was Kasper exactly one year ago? Sure Kasper was playing vs adults over seas but last year was his first year on an American sheet vs Olympic, and that was a big adjustment. Lombardi and Mazur hurt make it look like the cupboard is more bare than it is. But at the same time GR isn’t overflowing with prospects. I keep saying, Draper needs to be removed from drafting round two and beyond. Still to this day Soderbloom and Johansson are the only non first round picks to play for the wings since Yzerman too over.WingZ wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 6:33 am Great points here. Danielson was actually doing well in the role for awhile.
A lot of players saw their stats drop, including the goalies, when Lombardi went down. Just an easier team to defend.
I'd love to see Lombardi's possession numbers.
Soderblom and Johansson were Wright picks.
Draper has taken a turn away from Europe.
Europeans - Rounds 3-7
24 - 1/6
23 - 2/6
22 - 2/6
21 - 1/5
20 - 2/7
----2/
19 - 4/7
18 - 3/6
17 - 2/9
16 - 3/4
15 -2/5
14 - 4/5
13 - 2/5
I'd give Hakan more picks, even if we've been dry for quite awhile.
Yzerman and Draper go hard to USHL/College players.
More time to decide.
But why not draft Russians, let them play over there.
You still have their rights at 25.

For sure. That’s how graduation works. Personally, I’d like to give Tuomisto a few games and see what he does. He’s not necessarily ready, he won’t necessarily ever be ready, but he’s almost 40, we should give him a look.hiramnicak wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 1:04 amkeep in mind that at this time last year, the griffins had edvinsson, johansson, kasper, and soderblom. right now, i'm happy with four graduates if soderblom can stick. if he gets sent back down, i'd wager mazur gets a call-up before danielson. once he's all up to speed, that is.holytoledo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 12:08 amIf we’re calling up kids we can waive whoever we like. Danielson has plenty of growth to experience in GR. If it clicks for him maybe he’s ready for a cup of Joe before the end of the year, but right now, no reason to rush him.
Mazur probably needs to show he’s back game ready and prove himself in the A before there’s any thought of a call up for him.
