Thursday wasn't great for Detroit - but it could have been worse. The standings tightened, but nobody ahead of Detroit got further ahead.

Islanders 3 Panthers 2 - And now the Islanders have tied Detroit and they have a game in hand.
Canadiens 4 Flyers 1 - At Montreal, sure. But still. That's a choke.
Penguins 3 BJs 2 - Pens Keep slim hopes alive, but a one-goal win over the BJs at home? 2 points were expected.
Toronto 5 Capitals 1 - Caps weren't expected to win. They didn;t.
Hurricanes 4 Red Wings 0 - Wings weren't projected to win.

Leafs @ Sabres - I've got the Sabres getting a loser point. Do or die.
Penguins @ BJs - Pens can't afford a loss.
Hawks @ Flyers - Flyers already lost one home game to a nonplayoff team. Can't afford another.
Islanders @ Lighting - I've got the Isles losing here.
Bruins @ Caps - I've got the Caps losing at home in regulation, so this is a chance to beat that projection.

I've got all 3 88-point teams projected to lose in regulation. Big chance for the Isles, Caps or Wings to make a gain with even an OTL.

All it takes is for one of these teams to get hot and roll off a 4-game winning streak and they could blow this thing up.

But this race is filled with so much mediocrity. The Penguins' two game streak is the longest going right now.

The Red Wings are expected to recall forward Zach Aston-Reese from AHL Grand Rapids ahead of Saturday’s matinee game against the Panthers. Per Sean Shapiro of EP Rinkside, Aston-Reese departed midway through Grand Rapids’ morning skate today and is returning to Detroit to join the team.
