Nobody said that it doesn't, but if you are doing your job as a GM and you have teams inquiring about a player, checking on whether that player is going to be around next year sounds like part of the job description.Pop Zeus wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 3:19 pmHe's an old man UFA who came via UFA.cska91 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 12:46 pm My explanation for this (if true) is that Yzerman doesn't want to lose Perron for nothing, so he is assessing whether Perron is re-signing with the Wings or is getting moved at the trade deadline. If Perron is signed, I would expect a deal that favors the Red Wings - short term and low dollars.
Life goes on if you lose him for nothing.
Y looking at extending Perron?

No
Please no
Maybe Yzerman is driving the price up and is planning on pulling the trigger and sending Perron and a d man to Krazy Kenny

Yzerman, by signing and trading for all these veterans, has really created a pickle for himself.
He's not going to trade away players for picks. I highly doubt he's gonna trade away current roster guys, except maybe Kostin or Holl, for anyone. It would be like slewfooting guys like Larkin, who've watched friends and teammates get traded every deadline forever.
If anyone of real value comes, expect Edvisson, Wallinder, kasper to go.
If it turns out this year's shooting percentage was just a happy accident, and we return to norm next year...
And we've traded our bluechipper and a first... well...
Dance with who brung ya.
Keeping Sprong and Kane along with signing Seider and Raymond, is all you have room for.

Yeah isn't it incomprehensible when everyone up and down the lineup is scoring? All Sprong does is score goals and lose his hair. Sundqvist, Ernie, Zadina.... Lindstrom, Oesterly, Hagg.... Losing such offensive powerhouses was brutal but the Wings made good anyway.
1.21 gigawatts! 1.21 gigawatts. Great Scott!

You make it sound as if Yzerman was getting ready to trade Jarnkrok for Legwand. Name one trade he's done so far where we gave up important assets and didn't benefit from a trade?Pop Zeus wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 8:49 pm Yzerman, by signing and trading for all these veterans, has really created a pickle for himself.

His marching orders are to make the playoffs. Given our lack of high-end talent, Yzerman had to dip into the free agency. So far, it's working.

Right now, it looks like we lost this trade.holytoledo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:23 pmYou mean besides Hronek?Zattaman wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 12:53 pmYou make it sound as if Yzerman was getting ready to trade Jarnkrok for Legwand. But, we got ASP in return, who is lighting it up in Sweden as an 18-year-old. Out of all the picks in the last 2 years, he appears to have the most "home run" potential.
And, while Hronek is offensively gifted and better defensively than Ghost, he is undersized and not worth what he's going to get this summer.

And isn't he paired with the Hughes kid? I could be a plus player skating with that guy.Zattaman wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 2:09 pmRight now, it looks like we lost this trade.holytoledo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:23 pmYou mean besides Hronek?Zattaman wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 12:53 pm

Zattamn has it right, Yzerman got an asset for a guy he would not have been interested in paying. Hronek was a good soldier, but in the grand scheme he could still shake out to be a very acceptable loss.
He leads all D men in points and it ain't close. Hronek didn't just suddenly become good. He suddenly became the partner for one of the best D man in the world.

Hronek.
For two.
I'd take them if you wanted to win.
Fans love to pretend they know what the GM's marching orders are. Just know you're basing your argument on fiction.
Yzerman hasn't been in a buy mode, so it's pretty silly to ask me to find examples of trading the farm.
I'm basing my ideas on some concrete numbers (salary cap, cap ranges, roster numbers) and some expectations that youth will soon have to make the team.
Not much else.
