Jordan Subban and Reddit's and Twitter's Cancel Culture Mobs

Post by Pop Zeus »

Something happened in an ECHL game yesterday.
Here's the video - along with PK Subban's take on what took place between his brother, Jordan, and Jacob Panetta.

I watched the video and I guess I can see a gesture - the so-called monkey gesture.
But could it be something else? Flexing to mock Jordan?
Did Jordan misinterpret Panetta's gesture?

Fuck if I know.

On Reddit and Twitter,, the case has been tried.
Panetta's a racist and must be banned from hockey for life.

Who really knows who Jacob Panetta is.
He spent 4 years at Colgate - a pretty good school. Doesn't mean he's racist or not.
Jacob Panetta did this tweet.

Nice gesture.
Doesn't mean he's racist or not.

But how would you like to be on the end of the judgment coming fast and furious at Jacob Panetta right now?

Crazy times.

Don't see definitive indication of racism. Could be flexing or fighting posture. That said there is very little difference between true racists and the woke. Both are hate groups. Both wish to eliminate the object of their hate from existence. And both base their beliefs and hate on false stereotypes. One major difference, racism has no legitimacy in civilized countries but woke-ism does.

This is so stupid. The "woke" can be extremely annoying, but the worst thing they're going to do is try to "silence" you on social media, or in very rare instances get you fired.

When was the last time some "woke" liberal pussy did something equivalent to Dylan Roof, John T Earnest, Robert Gregory Bowers, James Alex Fields, or Brenton Harrison Tarrant?

Get the fuck outta here man.

Dude wasn’t flexing. Come on. He was clearly going with the old “angry monkey” gesture. Poor taste. The “big man” flex is a very different gesture. Also, Subban had his back turned, which leads me to believe there were monkey noises accompanying the action.

Your should listen to Gary Kasparov. You're part of the problem.....

‘Woke’ Is a Bad Word for a Real Threat to American Democracy: In authoritarian regimes, vengeance and coercion stand in place of justice and reason. I’ve seen it before.

The search is on for new words for old ideas. “Cancel culture” and “woke” have become overused and abused, part of a struggle to define one’s political opponents in the harshest possible way, to dismiss ideas as not only wrong or harmful, but intolerable.

As a nonnative English speaker, I am content to avoid rhetorical fashion and use older phrases. Call it the mob mentality, groupthink, or punitive neo-Puritan orthodoxy. It is the abuse of power—mostly social, not yet governmental—to silence debate and paralyze the spread of any ideas that challenge the prevailing ideological dogma. It is the coordinated, coercive attempt to win a debate by ending debate—to punish, not to educate.

The leading practitioners of these tactics have two contradictory responses to criticism. First, they say it isn’t happening, that it doesn’t exist, that drawing attention to it is a rhetorical whine to silence critics of the establishment and shield the privileged from accountability. Second, they blame the victims, calling them bad people with bad ideas who should be banished to make room for more diverse voices. Claiming you are fighting fire with fire can be used to justify any excess; the only way to fight back is to take freedom away from someone else.

And this has really nothing to do with the "cancel culture" being whined about in the context of the subject of this thread.

In fact, whining about "woke" and "cancel culture" in this context is the exactly the type of abuse and overuse of nonsense rhetoric Kaspariv bemoans in his first 2 paragraphs.

He bemoans the words not the acts of totalitarians. As they do not accurately reflect the gravity of their abuse.

Oh, BTW, were your referring to the likes of

Rene Boucher
James Hodgkinson

earlier? Or have your filtered them out?
