Many draft experts will often express something like “with all else equal, take the center” when discussing forwards. The position is much more coveted than wing, especially near the top of draft boards. Perhaps that’s why Cutter Gauthier is flying up rankings as this year’s draft approaches, finishing third among North American skaters in the final list from NHL Central scouting.

Gauthier, 18, will transition to center full-time next season for Boston College, and teams that have interviewed him this week at the combine see him in the middle, according to Corey Pronman of The Athletic. The 6’3″ forward is already an interesting mix of size and skill, meaning that news of his move to center makes him all the more intriguing as an option near the very top.
This is really the guy I had set my sights on at 8. I don’t see him lasting that long any longer. Savoie may slip, but I’m not sure if he does I take him over Kasper or Nazar. Kinda torn between those 2. I think Nazar has both the higher ceiling and lower floor and may end up on the wing.

I thought this was interesting. Obviously, Slaffy is going to be long gone by the time we pick if we don't trade up, but teams are inquiring....

Kevin Allen reported on Hockey Buzz that the Devils may be looking to trade the 2nd overall, as long as they get a pick in the top 10.

Sign us up for that. Not sure how much more we’d have to add besides the 8th pick, but I’d think hard about including Vrana or Bert if we got a little something coming back besides #2.

With Slavofsky committed to playing NCAA next year we could easily finish bottom 3 if we move Bert. Hell we could move Larkin and finish worst overall. Larkin would be close to worth #2 overall straight up.

NHL Combine Fitness tests, top 25 results. Kasper and Gauthier both do well in many of these tests.

Maveric Lamoureux seems to be in the top 10 of most of the tests. At 6'7 although thin at about 200 pounds for a RH defenseman, i would imagine he might go late first round or early 2nd round.

Shane Wright only showed in the top 10 once in the tests.

Probably my favorite prospect evaluator outside of Mark Edwards' team, Chris Peters (Daily Faceoff), just released his final ranking with brief summaries for his top 100 draft eligibles.
