Carolina waited patiently to get their payback for Montreal's offer sheet to Aho.
Compensation would be a 1st and 3rd, but if Montreal matches, he'll need to be qualified at that amount next year.

Re: NHL Off-Season News
This is awesome.
But does it make sense for Carolina?
$6M?
Dylan Larkin makes $6M
Larkin 44 games 9-14-23
KK - 56 games 5-15-20
In a lot fewer minutes.
And he is getting closer to 50 percent on faceoffs. And he has some nice playoff numbers.
I like the way he plays.
But $6M for 20 points in 56 games.
If Montreal balks, Carolina owes a first and third.
And Carolina isn't such a lock for the playoffs.

Re: NHL Off-Season News
Waddell is a moron. Kotkaniemi had a good rookie year but has regressed since. He’s looking a lot like Riley Sheahan career wise. Not worth the $ and not worth the qualifying raise next year. Meanwhile he moved Ned over 500k and got fleeced on Jake Bean.Pop Zeus wrote: ↑Sat Aug 28, 2021 10:03 pm This is awesome.

Carolina probably picks at least 15th or later. That’s what makes this a tough call for the Habs. Given this year’s draft class. i’d take my chances on the Canes pick in the lottery on this one though. If Montreal is a playoff team they can use the Canes pick to get Nick Leddy at the deadline.

Re: NHL Off-Season News
Supposedly Carolina tried trading for Kotkaniemi this offseason before the offer sheet.

Re: NHL Off-Season News
I was disappointed when it became clear he wasn’t going to sign with us. I also thought it was a mistake on his part, because I thought his path to the NHL would have been easier in DET than elsewhere. But I’m much happier with our current situation of Ned and Cossa, than I think I would have been if he did sign with us and either Ned or Cossa didn’t happen as a result. Best of luck to him!

Re: NHL Off-Season News
Probably not, but if the Canes are a playoff team and it looks like their pick will be say 22 or later, Leddy & a 3rd or something like that could work. Leddy for a first & a salary dump could too.
