Starting to not be so high on Dvorsky. He’s feeling more like a good middle sixer than a guy that will challenge Larkin for the 1C role. Of all the guys we have a shot at, I think Moore is the most likely to be elite. Barlow is maybe the next most likely.
Read a Pronman piece yesterday about the 2018 draft that was pretty interesting too. He broke down all the D that were picked in that draft. A lot of smaller, potentially elite puck moving D that went in the first, many before Miller, Bouchard and Dobson who are all 6’3” or taller. Those 3 have thrived, while out of all the smaller D - Hughes, Boqvist, Sandin, Smith and a few others, only Hughes has turned into a truly valuable NHL player.
He's got a great shot but I don't see what Dvorsky does so well beyond that. He doesn't skate well enough to be a high end C IMO. I wouldn't pick him with either #1's. Barlow seems to have a great package of skating, shooting and size.
Yeah, I feel like Barlow is a really safe bet to be a 25-25-50 guy and could be a 35-40 goal guy in his prime.
I really like Pops assessment of Moore though. AA with hockey sense, a better work ethic and a 200 foot game.
Makar was obviously another small D who thrived.
After the top 5 - it's all over the map.
Pronman just had Benson really low.
Is it all over the map because there are so many good prospects?
Or because there are so many flawed prospects?

hard disagree on all of this.
dvorsky is fantastic at breaking up plays and getting involved defensively, and his playmaking is underrated. he's also got pro-size, and while i agree his skating could improve, it's not nearly as bad as advertised. not from what i saw against his peers at the u18s. i'd love to pick up dvorsky and let him and kasper fight over the second center spot and staple the other guy on the wing. not sure why that's a problem.
i'm really not a fan of barlow at nine. he has projectable size and skating, sure, and he has a good shot for juniors, but he shoots from the perimeter a lot, which isn't going to translate too well against pro goaltenders. i get the heebie-jeebie-zadinies with him.
Barlow could top out at 6'2 205
What do the scouts say:
2nd most CHL goals after Bedard.
73% of his goals are from the mid-to-low slot - he goes to the net.
Quick drag and release shot.
Heavy playstyle.
Hard shot.
Doesn't seem like a great skater.

Still hard to say for sure...
Only 5 goals more than Zeimer, who kinda has the same knocks but is projected in the late 30s generally.

One of the Ziemmer reports I read criticized his skating a lot.

He's more mobile than But. BTW what happened to all the But videos? I remember seeing more of them several weeks ago.

Maybe in small spaces, but But has good top end speed.
And big guys, in small spaces have the added advantage of reach.
Yeah I've seen what that reach does for Soderblom. Not much. It can be a false crutch that gets pounded over your head if you depend on it. For D men it's a different story but unless you are real skillful (I think how Mario used his reach) I don't think it is an asset for most forwards.
