After losing Gaudreau and Tkachuk, you had to figure that Calgary could not afford to lose Huberdeau and would do anything to sign him.

They pretty much gave him everything i imagine he wanted in that contract. That contract is buyout proof and lockout or shutdown proof on top of giving him as much money as he wanted for max term with a NMC for the majority of it so if they need to move him in the near future, he decides exactly where he wants to go...although i doubt many teams would want that contract unless the cap starts going up by a lot soon.

Zadina / RFA watch: https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/free ... eason=2022

If I filtered everything correctly, there are 40 RFAs yet to be signed, some with various caveats, some like Walman (I think) not intended to be re signed.

Walman filed for arbitration so unless he gets enough money that the Wings can walk away from the award, he will be under contract for this season. If Yzerman didn't intend to sign him, he just wouldn't have qualified him and let him become a UFA.

Thanks, I must have been thinking of someone else we walked away from.

Maybe you were thinking of Olli Juolevi That the Wings claimed on waivers late in the season and didn't qualify. He signed with the Ducks.

The Athletic ranked all the teams based on contract efficiency. Wings ranked 20th. They don't count ELCs so Detroit would rank higher with Seider and Raymond if they did. Copp and mostly Chiarot brought down the Wings rankings. A lot of people seem to hate the Chiarot contract and i have to say, i wasn't fond of it either. I would have much rather have Zadorov at his contract over Chiarot.

Anyhow here is a link to the article for those that want to see it

The Red Wings seem to have a Russian issue for a long while. We haven't really drafted them and don't sign them. I thought Stevie would have changed this by now. I thought Zardorov was a no-brainer. Anyway it sure seems like the case.
