I stopped reading all local sports news sections because it's the same crap, same two quotes, without any meaningful information or analysis.

And, honestly, who cares what Draisaitl thinks is the reason behind their struggles. It's not HIS job to identify the problem. Let the coach feed the press a few good quotes and be done with it.
I completely agree with all of that about player interviews going away for good.

Nothing worthwhile comes out of them and I can't think of any time I ever cared about watching a player interview. Get rid of it and get rid of that Helene St James idiot.

This IS the news.

Player is frustrated.

Blame the reporter all you want. You could sense some tone with the "can you elaborate" or whatever he said.

But Drai said "you do it. You're smarter than everyone" or whatever he said - and that took it to a new level.

The reporter, not being a complete pushover, asked him why he was being pissy. Which is dumb. but whatever.

And now we have a moment that represents what's gone wrong in Oilerland.

I don't mind this shit.
The anger/frustration here was real - beyond the mindless nothingness we usually get.
That's not news, that's TMZ type stuff. It generates clicks, but doesn't help with any meaningful discussion. Every headline is now about a "heated exchange between Draisaitl and a report", instead of "why are Oilers so bad?"

It's funny when it's something like Larry Brooks vs Torts. But, in this case, it was a clear entrapment to get him to say something that would cause a stir.

Entrapment?
WtF?

Drai gave a weak answer to a question and was asked if he could elaborate a bit. Drai responded childishly. And then the reporter did the same.

The heated exchange is a direct result of the Oilers being this bad.

Bullshit question got a bullshit answer.

Matheson wanted Draisaitl to throw his goalie under the bus, so he has something to write about. Draisaitl gave him the type of answer Torts or Sutter would have given in this situation.

The follow up question was completely unnecessary. He's been doing this for over 40 years and should know better. He was just baiting Draisaitl to say something stupid.

I have a hard time believing this confrontation just happened out of thin air. This looks like Drai has been taking exception with this reporter and his stories for a while. The reporter clearly went into that looking to get a reaction maybe because Drai hasn't been giving much for answers since the Oilers went in the tank. He got it, then rubbed it in with one more question.

This was just the boiling point. I bet this has been brewing for a while.

If the reporters dont like the answers Drai is giving they should ask for someone else.

Apparently Draisaitl has a reputation for being standoffish and being hard to interview with the media since he got to Edmonton. He apparently has been trying to do more this season but it doesn't seem to be going well. Maybe he should have pulled a page from Datsyuks book and make it look like he can't speak much English and avoid doing interviews and press conferences.

"Why are you so pissy" isn't the "fuck" that you're supposed to ask.

Why is he pissy? he has to do media appearances and he's one of the best players in the world, with one of the other best players in the world and they're losing because the GM is garbage

Watch it again. He asked what was 'the number one reason.' He did want someone thrown under the bus. Matheson wanted Draisaitl to do his dirty work. Because of course if you start calling out players they're not going to be very accommodating.
